Madison is a beautiful small city with lots of parks and lakes. Also lots of brew pubs :). And for the past few days beautiful weather. I wish it could stay like this for months! We took a walk through Madisons large arboretum and I was amazed at the large numbers and types of deciduous trees. As a westerner this looks like such an alien landscape. Nice too, but I kinda miss the rocks, sagebrush and pine. I am also struck by how plentiful water is. I am appalled by faucets that run automatically here and realize that in the west we look at water in a different way, as something to be preserved, saved. It is a western mentality that we limit our showers and use of water. The west is a beautiful place but so much harder to live in in many ways.
One thing the mid west has is wind! I was fascinated by the number of wind farms that we passed in rural Iowa. Not just a single windmill at a homestead but the really big ones. Such a beautiful sight!
