One of my favorite rides at this time of year is South Table Mountain in Golden. The trails are mostly dry and it is pretty empty during the week. There are numerous access points around the mesa, some are steep but there are a few with a more gradual grade. On the east side of the mesa we rode Basalt Cap Loop. This side of the mesa has wider trails and we did see quite a few runners and dog walkers.

The rest of the mesa has narrow single track sections that travel up and down the rolling terrain. Some sections are rocky and loose, some narrow and rutted single track so you do have to pay attention. There is some private property to watch for up there but very few people and no development. Great views and fun trails make this an good close dirt ride in the spring. The trails are not fully developed and so I am not sure about trail names or distance. I think about 7-8 miles of dirt.
