Rain, rain, rain

Usually September is sunny, warm and dry in Colorado, with cool nights.  But last year in 2013 a large wet cloud parked itself over the west and it rained for days.  We left for Northern NM before the rain startedand camped outside of Santa Fe.  It was warm and beautiful, almost too warm. Next was Chaco Canyon, NM. It  had rained recently and the clay soil was slippery and sticky.  There was so much mud that we couldn't ride the dirt roads.

Mud on my fork on the road to Wijiji Ruin. It was so thick we had to try to scrape it odd with sticks.

Sunset looking towards Fajada Butte.  The butte is not open to the public but it is an archaeoastronomy site. The  petroglyphs there marks the solstices.

We really wanted to get to a rock art panel depicting the sun, moon and a star thought to represent the 1054 supernova. We were less than a mile away but the recent rains made the water too high to cross. That wash was over 5' deep.

Rain was predicted again and the roads out of Chaco would be impassable so we packed up and left that afternoon. We found a campsite just before sunset. The next day we left for Durango.

Raining in Durango too, so we left for Moab, more rain.

We gave up and headed home. The rain had stopped but Evergreen was flooded!
