Our Inner nerd takes a tour

We gave up on Canada after being worn down by the high cost of everything.  Gas is high but also food and everything else except tea which is cheap compared to the US. We reluctantly left the coast and headed inland.
After a stop at US customs where we were incredibly lame.  "Do you have any fire wood?"  asked the boarder guard.  "No" we answered.  But then when we opened the back of the camper for him and he saw the two logs that we have been using to level the truck, we respond "Oh, that's just wood from Wisconsin" He did let us back in the US, but grudgingly.
We continued on west into Maine and through New Hampshire to Vermont.  In Vermont we saw a sign for a quarry tour.  Who wouldn't pay good money to see a hole in the ground 600 ft deep? So we signed up for the tour.
The water is blue because of the dissolved limestone.

Huge facility where the granite is carved into monuments.

Preparing the block to be carved.

Where the blocks are being quarried.

The factory makes grave markers as well as bases for precision manufacturing, rollers for paper production and building materials. Kinda cool!

We did camp by some beautiful lakes and rode and hiked some nice trails.  More on that later.
